SAND CITY, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Sand City is working on a different trail from its railway-corridor proposal: a planned coastal-access route connecting the West End to the shore across the city’s coastal land. The adopted conceptual design calls for about 3,775 linear feet of paths, including accessible sections, boardwalks and sidewalks, as well as interpretive signs and a viewing platform.
The project also proposes restoration of roughly 12 acres of native dune habitat, striped parking at Tioga Avenue and a restroom near West Bay Street. State Coastal Conservancy planning support was received in 2024, and the City Council approved draft conceptual plans in November that year.
This is not a completed boardwalk: site work, coastal permits, habitat protection measures and funding must be confirmed before visitors assume access is open. Sand City’s beach environment contains sensitive dunes, and people should continue using designated public routes and respecting habitat signs while the project progresses.
Primary municipal source: City of Sand City project resources. Planning projections are not completed-project claims.
