SAND CITY, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. Sand City officials are asking residents and businesses to support a Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program application to help complete the proposed rail-corridor trail. The city has planning and design funds, but says additional construction funding is needed. Residents can complete the project’s questionnaire and review the layout maps published in June 2026.
The grant concept includes fitness equipment, picnic and seating areas, landscaping, shade trees and dedicated trailside parking, alongside a walking and cycling connection that would close a gap in the regional coastal network. A grant application is not a grant award. Nor does a preliminary amenity list ensure each feature will be constructed exactly as first drawn. Public input may help planners prioritize access, accessibility and operations. People seeking the final application deadline, eligibility or program status should use the official city and California State Parks pages rather than assume the state has already financed the work.
Primary municipal source: City of Sand City project resources. Planning projections are not completed-project claims.
