SAND CITY, Monterey County — October 26, 2026. A new multi-use trail could close an important missing connection in the Monterey Bay recreation network. Sand City is planning approximately one mile of dual-path pedestrian and bicycle facilities within the Transportation Agency for Monterey County’s rail corridor, part of the larger 18-mile Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail.
Preliminary plans include separated space for walking and cycling, landscaping, shaded seating, recreation amenities, and possible fitness equipment. The city says funding is in place for planning and design and it is pursuing a Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program grant for the remaining construction funds. Its target is to begin building in 2027, not proof construction is currently underway. Residents can examine June 2026 project maps and 30% design plans, and offer feedback through the official survey. The project could serve Sand City and Seaside residents, but land acquisition, final permits, budget and construction sequence still need confirmation.
Primary municipal source: City of Sand City project resources. Planning projections are not completed-project claims.
